From the beginning gay men have had a hard time dating. Dating for gay men has become somewhat of a joke within the gay community. When you’re successful at finding love, a relationship and romance you’re thought of as being married off, no longer fun, and you often lose the people who you once considered your friends. Besides all of that to worry about there are many more personal and communal ideals that must be met to even be considered dateable. So why do gay men have such a hard times dating? I’ll outline the reasons why and provide you with tips on your to be successful with these problems.
Body Image Issues
It’s completely objective to state that at least 95% of gay men have body image issues. You can find these insecurities in the most fit down to the least. The ideal in the gay community to be perfect is so embellished that not even the most fit, muscular or good-looking person considers himself worthy. This affects dating in the gay community because if no one can be happy with himself, they can never be happy with anyone else. Dating Tip One: Learn to be happy with what you have and no try to be something you’re not.
The Next Best Thing Syndrome
Don’t be fooled by the intimacy, sexual relations and introductions to friends. I’ve coined a term among dating relationships in the gay community, The Next Best Thing Syndrome. You may experience symptoms of this syndrome when your partner encounters a new man who he deems better than you. It’s a class case where the relationship is broken up because one person thinks someone new on the gay scene is sexier, younger or richer. They’re always trying to move the food chain. Don’t become a victim of this syndrome. Dating Tip Two: If you’re dating always look your best, you want to be the guy he liked in the beginning. Don’t give him any reasons to stop dating you.
Open Relationships
Open Relationships have always been somewhat of the norm in gay relationships. Straight men are often envious of these situations where you can sleep with anyone you want, have 3 somes or more somes. Its not always fun and games, a lot of relationships are ended over this. Dating Tip Three: Hang on to your man! If you’re dating, set the tone in the bedroom, if things are going well, no one will need to go anywhere else to be satisfied.
The Party Scene
Gay men are infamous for the hard-partying ways. Gay parties are hardcore, all night long fun. You party until you can’t go anymore. It all seems great… but not so fast. These parties are where a lot of dating will come to a halt. Excess drinking and drug use by a lot of gay men often fracture healthy relationships. Dating Tip Four: Keep you man at home, host dinners or go out with close friends. There’s not respect for daters on the gay scene, maintain your healthy relationship by being around healthy influences.
The Lonely Gay
Often you hear of desperate gay men. They will do anything for a date. They will pretend to have things in common, share interest and change themselves to get noticed. This never works out; settling for the fact of settling is a no-no. Dating Tip Five: Don’t change you are to please anyone, be patient; a successful date will find you.
The Age Game
You can have a big age difference and be in love, however things such as where you are in your life, what you interest are and what you want out of a relationship will be different. A lot of time younger gay men want older men and older men want younger men, however its never the same demographic that wants each other. Often times when you have a large age gap in a gay relationships it’s doomed. Someone wants to party rather be a homebody. Someone wants kids and someone wants to be a kid. It just doesn’t workout. Dating Tip Six: Date age appropriate and find interest and find things in common with people in your same age group, you’ll have a greater chance of succeeding.
Now You’re Ready to Date
All of these gay dating tips will help you in the dating game. To be a successful dater in the gay community you need to stand strong on your own two legs. You need to have a thick skin, take care of yourself and beware that not everyone is going to respect your relationship status or care if you might be dating someone.
